Blood in Sputum (Haemoptysis)

 

There are many causes of blood appearing in your sputum, however, especially if you are older or a smoker, further investigation should be considered.

 

Causes can include simply vigerous / prolonged coughing or infection. However it can also suggest other lung diseases, some of which can be very severe.

 

Often further tests are needed which can include a CT scan and a bronchoscopy. Dr Chapman can advise you to the most timely and appropriate investigations.
